Nikaido Yukiyoshi (二階堂行義)

Yukiyoshi NIKAIDO (1203 - March 17, 1268) was a governmental official of the bakufu (Japanese feudal government headed by a shogun), responsible for practical works, during the mid-Kamakura period. He was a son of Yukimura NIKAIDO, and a hyojoshu (a member of Council of State). His brothers included Motoyuki NIKAIDO, Yukihisa NIKAIDO, Yukikata NIKAIDO, and Koreyuki NIKAIDO. He was also commonly known as Oki Saburo saemon no jo, Oki saemon no jo, and Dewa zenji (the former official of Dewa Province) and Oki Dewa zenji. His official job grade was Saemon no jo (third-ranked officer of the Left Division of Outer Palace Guards) of Dewa Province. After entering the priesthood, he obtained his Buddhist name Doku. It is said he died at the age of 66. According to the "Azuma Kagami" (The Mirror of the East), he was also known as Dewa zenji.

Records on Yukiyoshi can be found in the "Azuma Kagami" between the dates of January 26, 1226 (December 20, 1225 in old lunar calendar) and April 19, 1266.

Appointed Saemon no jo (third-ranked officer of the Left Division of Outer Palace Guards).

April 2, 1237:

Awarded Jugoinoge (Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade).

November 23, 1237:

Appointed Dewa no kami (the governor of Dewa Province).

May 24, 1238:

Added as a member of Kamakura bakufu hyojoshu.

October 14, 1239:

Awarded Jugoinojo (Junior Fifth Rank, Upper Grade).

1240:

Recorded as "zen Dewa no kami" (the former governer of Dewa Province) beyond this year.

December 29, 1245:

Awarded Shogoinoge (Senior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade).

September 4, 1260:

Entered into priesthood and obtained the Buddhist name Doku.

March 17, 1268:

Died.
